Jatin Has an Eye for People

I met Jatin for the first time in front of Firgun with Shivani while they were about to walk up to Firgun and while I was going out. I remember Shivani being in her own world as always, looking around with a little chirping, but Jatin gave me a look and said "Hi." Later, when I was at the cafe, I saw Jatin testing a person's eyes. I asked if he was a doctor while he was about to leave, and he said he is an optometrist. That's the only talk we had until 2nd, October.

It was an upset day for me on 2nd, October and I was working at the counter with red eyes when Shivani came to me and asked "Did you cry? Why. Acha, later!" Later when I was sitting outside talking, trying to laugh with a friend, I found a guy who walked towards my chair and told me, "Don't cry." I smiled at it, and so did my friend! It was Jatin.

I kept wondering a lot about the kindness that came from strangers that night. The next noon, I saw them both, exchanged smiles & sat down for talk & tricks. That's when Jatin told me about his dream of starting a B&B here. I figured that he had tattooed 1964 on his hand, and when I asked him about it, he said that it was his Mom's birth year. While talking Jatin told me that the dorms and rooms of his space would be named after his pets.

Whenever I see Jatin or walk into Ghar, I see many artsy stuff everywhere. Whenever I see him, he's either sitting with himself noting down ideas & thoughts that could help his dream see light. The day we talked about what I do and him liking it, I wanted to do an art piece for Ghar as a gift for the kindness he showed to me that day. Yesterday when I called him, he said that he was leaving for Delhi today. Then I thought, "What if I can never meet this stranger to let him know that he's special?" So I sat down and worked on this piece.

While the world is full of people who make us question our worth, there are only a handful who have the heart to walk towards a stranger who is having a bad day, to offer comfort. And I want you to know that you're one among the latter.

They say, kindness always comes back. I'm not sure on which days, but I'm sure that it does on the days you least expect it when I see people like you. ❤️
